Get a HINT! We offer the following diploma programs and classes:
Health Programs ~ Human Studies
Upon completion of all three of Holistic Health Programs (2,320 hours), Hummingbird Institute of Natural Therapies will present you with the title of Naturopath; the traditional diploma available to orthodox naturopaths. Certification is by H.I.N.T.
Internship hours – there are no additional fees for internship hours and students may not charge for their services. To provide students with multiple options to accommodate today’s busy life styles, students have two options for completing intern requirements.
There is no profit to the school or the instructors from a student's intern work.
Ideally, students would begin their acquiring their intern hours after attending a minimum of four classes and no less than 30 days prior to their completion date.
400 hour program = 120 classroom hours, 180 Directed Study, 100 hours of supervised internship This program is designed to prepare students to assist in natural childbirth, both in the home and hospital settings. The purpose of a traditional doula is to support the mother throughout the labor and delivery process. A Naturopathic Doula's focus is on supporting the mother, father and other immediate family members throughout the pregnancy, labor & delivery, and the early infancy phases. This program is unique to other birth attendant (doula) programs in that it includes training in multiple holistic health options such as: nutrition, homeopathy, essential oils, etc.
Internship hours - Students must attend three births with at least one birth in the home and one birth in the hospital to gain experience in multiple settings. They must also participate in the pregnancy and infant care of four mothers and their infants. Students may not charge for their services during internship hours.
The school will provide students with prospects for internship hours. Students will have the opportunity to "shadow" or observe their instructors during their professional practice (typically Monday through Friday), when seeing pregnant women and infants, at which time the student will have the opportunity to assess and observe the application of the material they are learning. However, as pregnancy and birth are rarely schedulable events, students should also be prepared for last minute notice of interning opportunities, particularly in the event of a birth.
Directed Studies - directed study hours for all programs involve a combination of reading additional books or school supplied written data and providing practical application of that information in conjunction with the material covered in the classes. Students (except the Doula program) are also required to write a 20 page research paper. The topic of the paper must be approved by HINT and may contain a maximum of 50% facts from the internet.
