- What is
Naturopathy?
-
If you're like most people, you might be
wondering, "What is 'Naturopathy'?"
"Pathy" comes from the Greek word 'pathos', meaning
the progression or path of something; usually a disease, a feeling or
some form of suffering. Combined with the word 'natural', naturopathy simply
means 'the natural path'. It is the earliest known healing system.
Before synthetic isolation of chemicals (drugs) and surgery, many
cultures used foods, water, whole herbs and various forms of touch for
a wide range of problems. For example, ancient Egyptians used liver to
help with night blindness and the Chinese are well known for using
acupuncture long before the time of Christ.
- What is
Allopathy?
-
You may also have heard the word 'Allopathy',
which also stems from the Greek language. 'Allo' meaning 'opposed to'
or 'departure from the normal' and again, the word pathy. Allopathy
generally refers to our modern mainstream medical model. The word came
into being a couple hundred years ago and in the strictest sense means
'opposed to homeopathy'. Homeopathy means 'same path' or 'like
path'. The original Latin translation of doctor means teacher. (This
is why teachers with a PhD are still given the title of
"Doctor" today.) In
the allopathic model, the physician is in control. In the naturopathic
model, YOU are in control and the Naturopath is your teacher and
guide.
- What
are the differences?
-
-
A Naturopath believes that the body is divinely created and as such we
have the ability to heal ourselves if given the right criteria. This
means that we are interested in helping each individual achieve
optimum health from a variety of areas that are specific to their
needs. In the allopathic model, we treat everyone the same and we
'manage' their disease by treating symptoms. In naturopathy, rather
than treat symptoms, we seek the cause. We look at each person as a
whole; body, mind and spirit. We assess an individual's health needs
through non-invasive techniques like Iridology, muscle response
testing, pH testing, QXCI Quantum Interface, etc. Then we discuss
options to help bring the body back into balance. This may be any
number of techniques such as diet modifications and herbs, massage or
energy work, homeopathic and flower remedies, color or sound therapy,
Biofeedback, etc.. We believe in Herring's Law of Cure which
says that healing occurs inside out, top to bottom and in reverse
order of the progression. Each program is tailored to the individual
and we will educate you as we go along so that you are
in control of your health.
